Vintage at Norwich Fashion Week #NWCHFW

If you've followed me for a while or if you're from Norwich you'll know I'm pretty proud of the way we do vintage in this city. It's not just the strongly defined scenes such as the 40s and the 50s , there's so much more than that going on, so it feels like there's a feeling of being something for everyone.

With lots of Norwich based small businesses specialising in vintage from both traditional bricks and mortar 'real life' shops and online businesses vintage provides us locals with a great way shop local and work our vintage looks our own way. My love for vintage has evolved tremendously since beginning this blog and I now find myself sporting a much more eclectic look that the more true forties style I was favouring in the early days of this blog.

With so many people interested in vintage style in many shapes and forms it's hardly surprising that Vintage is one of the four main shows featured at Norwich Fashion Week. From small beginnings Norwich Fashion Week has grown in to a week long celebration involving a whole host of businesses and creatives.

I joined Norwich Fashion Week as board member shortly after the 2013 week so am now counting down to my second week being on the team which is a very exciting but a crazily busy time!

Sponsoring this years Vintage show is Wex Photographic which is very exciting as they bring an element to the show that opens up the fashion photography side of fashion week, which being a BA photography student myself is I think, more than a bit exciting!

So after a meeting at Wex HQ plans were made and earlier this year a competition was held for people to apply to photograph the afternoon Vintage Show under the guidance of top fashion photographer Paul Bayfield aka Timesniper . Although I will be working at the shows I'm hoping to have an ear open to pick up some tips myself! I'm very envious of the comp winners, they are going to have a great time I think!

Joining the Vintage Show team again this year is Karen of Fabulous Miss K who brings with her many many years of fashion show production experience. I would say she has these years under her belt but as it's Karen it's more apt to say she has years of experience under her marabou scarf!

I've worked on a few projects separate from Fashion Week with Karen recently and we have few other projects to work on once fashion week is over and we've both had a VERY large glass of wine or six.

I love any excuse to put a photoshoot together so once again we created a promo shoot for the 2015 Vintage Show. We had the theme idea but a chance conversation I had with Mantra nightclub really helped it evolve as the location is just so ridiculously cool thanks to the amazing decor.

A few behind  scenes I took at the shoot. It was a busy busy day as I'd been at uni in the morning then had to head straight to the venue to put my hairstylist head on.....

And some of the final shots by Joe Black, which are pretty amazing I'm sure you'll agree!

I recently wrote about vintage in Norwich for the Life In A Fine City blog and mentioned a few of the places to look out for - if you are in Norwich or plan to visit this is an amazing blog for looking at places to eat, drink and visit.

News: What I've been up to.........

If you follow me over on Twitter you might have noticed that I've been dropping the word university  in to the odd tweet and yes indeed I am now a uni student! At 37..............

When Christmas 2013 I sat an applied to do a BA in Photography and in Feb 2014 I found myself at an interview surrounded by much younger people who all had done there A levels and various BTEC and foundation degrees and there I sat in my damp faux fur with my wet feet (It really poured as I walked to the interview - typical!) and nothing but my portfolio which I'd built up through adult education City and Guilds classes and friends who'd trusted me to do projects with them.

I was pretty sure I hadn't got on the course but thought it had been a good experience and that I could always try again next year. When an email from the uni arrived about a week later I can remember exactly where I was and I stopped walking and just looked at it sitting in my inbox for a few seconds wondering whether to open it or not.............but a few seconds later I did and to my astonishment and I mean total astonishment I'd been given an unconditional place. EEK!

So since October I've been busily working away on the various uni projects and getting my head around being in full time education which at 37 is challenging. And weird.......... I told about five people very close to me that I was applying and once I got on about another five. I didn't really start telling people for a few weeks because I was convinced someone at the uni was going to realise they had made a mistake, but here I am several months after the start date and it is indeed actually happening! I'm still pinching myself.

Being in full time study does mean that at the moment my hair and makeup services are limited and the website is being updated very soon so will have a whole new look.

I've also been very busy working on Norwich Fashion Week and of you can make it to Norwich for 8th March I really thing we have great show planned! This year's show is sponsored by Wex Photographic which I think is a perfect sponsor. Fashion and photography go hand in hand for me!

You can buy tickets to the Vintage Show here and this week I'll be blogging about more vintage show news.
